from moms’ night out to shelf-stable freedom

How freeze-dried breast milk changed our feeding journeys

On a much-needed moms’ night out, we did what new moms do: talked newborns, breastfeeding, and sleep (or the lack of it). We were still in the trenches—figuring out how to return to work while keeping breastfeeding goals alive. The question we kept circling was the one so many parents ask in the fourth trimester:

“How can I keep giving breast milk for as long as I want—without adding more stress?”

We’d both been hustling to build freezer stashes. But freezers fill fast, labels get lost, and bags expire before you can use them. The last thing any of us want is for hard-earned milk to go to waste.

That night sparked an idea: what if there were a way to make liquid gold last longer, free up freezer space, and make feeding faster and simpler—at home, at work, or on the go?

That idea became Leche—a mom-founded way to freeze-dry your breast milk into a shelf-stable powder, so real milk fits real life.

A question many moms ask themselves during the 4th trimester is “How can I continue breastfeeding for as long as I desire without causing too much extra stress in my life?” And asking ourselves the same, we explored ideas for storing your breast milk. Moms work overtime trying to stockpile a stash of breast milk for their babies and unfortunately, those frozen bags expire way too fast and freezers fill up way too quick.

The last thing we ever want to do with our hard earned breast milk is have it go to waste. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could take our precious liquid gold and make it last much longer, free up some much needed freezer space, allow more versatility and make reconstitution WAY quicker and easier?  This one ‘moms night out’ and unique thought was the birth of Leche- a way for moms to freeze drying their liquid gold into a shelf stable powder that makes feeding breast milk easier and an option for years to come!

Freezer vs. Freeze-Drying: What’s the Difference?

For years, the choices were “use it or freeze it.” Both can lead to waste and mental load. Freeze-drying changes the equation.

  • The science (in plain English): Under cold vacuum, we gently remove water from your milk. What remains is the good stuff—nutrition and immune factors—preserved in a powder that you can store at room temperature when sealed and kept in a cool, dry place.

  • A proven method: Freeze-drying (lyophilization) has been trusted in medicine and food science for decades. We’re applying that same care to your milk.

Bottom line: Less “freezer Tetris.” More freedom.

Why Parents Choose Freeze-Dried Breast Milk

  • Shelf life that fits your life
Designed for long-term, room-temperature storage when sealed and stored properly—no constant rotating, no guessing games. Perfect for building a stash or an emergency reserve.
Always follow your Leche kit instructions and your pediatrician/IBCLC’s guidance.

  • Space-saving & travel-ready
No ice packs. No hotel fridge hunts. Lightweight sachets slip into any bag and reconstitute in seconds with purified or distilled water.

  • Caregiver-friendly
Standardized reconstitution makes feeding simple for partners, grandparents, and daycare—no last-minute thawing.

  • Flexible by design
Because you add the water, you can follow your instructions precisely—and keep feeding consistent anywhere.

Inside Leche’s Process (Why Safety Comes First)

Your milk is precious. We treat it that way.

  • Intake screening & temperature checks

  • Clinical-grade quality control before production

  • Controlled freeze-drying in validated cycles

  • Sealed, labeled packaging with lot-level traceability

Translation: Your milk stays safe, protected, and easy to use.

A Helpful Option for High-Lipase Families

If your little one rejects refrigerated or frozen milk due to a soapy/rancid taste, you’re not alone. That “off” flavor is often linked to lipase, a natural enzyme in breast milk.

Traditional scalding can blunt that taste—but may also impact other beneficial components. Freeze-drying can often help reduce the off-notes without scalding. If you suspect high lipase, reach out—we’ll share prep tips and best practices.

Convenient Use

When it's time to use your Leche, it's easy to reconstitute by adding water – no more thawing frozen milk or warming up refrigerated milk – just add purified water and it's ready to go! Plus, you have the ultimate control over your baby’s nutrition and hydration with Leche- creating more nutrient dense milk (more Leche) or more fluids (less Leche) than with other feeding options.

Our goal is simple: protect every ounce you worked for—and make feeding feel lighter, not harder.
